Bangladesh and India held meeting to restart border hat in Kurigram

The Deputy Commissioner level jointly meeting between Bangladesh and India was held in the Border Haat ground to restart Border Haat at Baleamari border under Rajibpur upazila in Kurigram district at noon on Tuesday (November 15).

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Resaul Karim led the Bangladesh side while Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Ampaty district of south-West Garo Hill under Meghalaya province in India Sree Kharmao Flang of Indian counterpart.They decided that the Border Haat will restart in the upcoming first week of the month of December.

It is mentioned here that The Border Haat starts at zero point near sub pillar no 19 of  near international main pillar no 1072 at Kalaier char of Maghalaya province in India on July 23,2011 to strengthen the relation between Bangladesh and India. Consequently, several thousands of people between the two countries got job opportunities among buyers and sellers.

The agricultural products which produced in five kilometers between the two countries were brought and sold here.Later during the epidemic period of Corona virus the Bangladesh-India jointly Haat was closed in administrative system on March, 2020. Several thousands of people were unemployed for the last two years.
