3 killed in terrorist attack at Ukhiya Rohingya camp

Three Rohingyas were killed and three others sustained serious injuries over establishing supremacy in a camp of Ukhiya in Cox's Bazar on Monday (10 June).

The incident took place in Rohingya Camp No. 4 in Ukhiya early Monday.

The deceased were identified as Md Ilyas, 31, son of Zafar Ahmed, Md Ishak, 54, son of deceased Abdur Rakim and Firoz Khan, 18 son of Md Ismail of E block of camp-3.

The injured in the incident are Abdul Haq, 32, son of Hashan, Nazir Ahmed, 55, son of Abdus Shukkur, Abdul Monaf, 60, son of late  Omar Mia. All of them are residents of F block.

According to the police, victim Ilyas was working as a source for Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).

“As he refused to give information about ARSA, members of Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) breached the barbed wire fence from the hills and entered Camp 4.

They shot and fatally wounded Rohingya guard Ilyas with a sharp weapon, leaving him dead on the spot.

After getting information about the incident, ARSA members came and attacked some RSO supporters Abdul Haq, Nazir Ahmed, Abdus Shukkur, Abdul Monaf, and Feroz Khan.

Later, the injured Rohingyas were taken to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex where doctors on duty declared Md Ishak and Feroz Khan dead.

The rest were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhia Police Station Shamim Hossain said that the bodies of the deceased were sent to the morgue.

Legal action in this regard is under process, he added.

Currently, police are stationed to keep the situation in the Rohingya camp under control, said 14 APBN commander Md Iqbal.
