Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Anisul Huq has said that there is no scope to arrest without a warrant under the Cyber Security Act.

Under the Cyber Security Act, the technical offence is 14 years for hacking or if someone destroys anything inside the computer. However, the provisions of the Digital Security Act that the journalist community had objected to have been radically changed, he said.

The minister was replying to questions from journalists after a special extended meeting of South Union Awami League in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday (15 September).

Regarding the arrest without warrant, the minister said there are only four sections of the Cyber Security Act. No law enforcement agency has the opportunity to make arrests without a warrant except for a cognizable offense. The questions raised are misinterpretations of the Cyber Security Act.

Upazila Awami League President Mohammad Ali Chowdhury, General Secretary Takzil Khalifa Kajal and upazila and union Awami League leaders were present at the meeting held at Hirapur Shaheed Noab Memorial High School premises with Acting General Secretary Majnu Mia in the chair.
