Farmers happy with bumper production of winter vegetables in Kurigram

Although the Aman cultivation is in late due to rain and flood but the farmers of Kurigram district are very happy with bumper production in early variety of winter vegetables as they are getting benefit.Kurigram Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official sources said the target of cultivation of vegetables in the district is 7500 hectares but the achievement is on 3620 hectares till now. The rest target will be full filled soon if the climatic condition continues favorable.

The agriculture department is investigation and advising to the farmers of in all the nine upazilas in the district. The production of vegetables is more than last year. All kinds of vegetables including bottle guard, bean, pumpkin, tomato, barboty, cauliflower, cabbage, radish, bitter guard, papaya etc are available in the local markets at present and the farmers are getting fair prices.

The farmer Paresh Chandra of village Kalowa under Holokhana union in Kurigram Sadar upazila told this correspondent that I have cultivated Lalshak and Radish on my five bighas of land. The vegetables is being sold in high rate as I have cultivated as early hours. I have gained as double.

While visiting at Khardanga village under Pandul union of Ulipur upazila, the farmer Noor Amin said he cultivated vegetables on his three bighas of land and the production is very satisfactory. I have been selling bottle guard for one month. The price is also better.The selling is nearing completion. Another vegetable trader of Kathalbari Hamed Ali said I have cultivated radish on five bighs of land, bottle guard on three bighas and Lalshak on two bighas of land and benefitted.

The farmer Habibur Rahman of Mohidhor area under Senai union of Rajarhat upazila told that I have cultivated winter vegetables on 17 bighas of land. Of them, brinjal on three bighas, bottle guard on three bighas, mustard and Palong shak on  two  bighas, bitter guard on four bighas, cucumber on two bighas and pumpkin on three bighas of land. I will begin to sale those within some days and I am expecting for better benefit.

Deputy Director of Kurigram DAE in Kurigram Biplob Kumar Mohonta said we are expecting about vegetables cultivation. The farmers are being advised and eagerness. We are also expecting to achieve hundred percent target within few days.
