Three cyber criminals arrested for pornography

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested three individuals for selling pornographic videos using abusing social media platforms. The arrestees – Md Abdul Halim (19), Mojahid (22) and Md Abdullah (18) are detained from different parts of the capital on Wednesday midnight, said a news release on Thursday.

In supervision of Deputy Commissioner (Cyber Crime) AFM Al Kibria, Assistant Police Commissioner Ariful Hossain Tuhin led the drive. During the drive, police seized three mobile phones and eight SIM cards from the cyber criminals.

A case has been registered in this regard at Ramna Model Police Station and two-day remand has been granted to the arrested for questioning. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism (Cyber) Najmul Islam said that several child pornography contents were found with the accused criminals. “Many more are involved and those involved will be brought to book soon,” he said.

The detainees used social media platforms like Facebook and Telegram to advertise the sale of pornographic videos and lure people from different classes and receiving money using mobile financial services of bKash, Nagad, Rocket and upay. The arrestees earned around Tk 2 million using MFS accounts with fake identities.

The criminals were providing all kinds of pornographic videos including child pornographic videos through software called ‘Cloud Storage Mega’. A large amount of pornographic video content was found on the seized mobile phone.
