Students at Jagannath University have issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Sadeka Halim, Registrar Prof Dr. Aynul Islam, the Proctorial Body, and the Hall Provosts by 3 PM tomorrow.
On Sunday (11 August), following a meeting with students in the university’s central auditorium, the organizers led a protest march to the administrative building at 2:30 PM.
The protesters expressed their frustration, insisting that the Vice-Chancellor and all associates aligned with Awami League within the administration must step down immediately. They indicated that if the resignations are not submitted, they are prepared to take further action to enforce them. The students noted that Vice-Chancellors and Proctorial Bodies at other universities have resigned under similar circumstances and questioned why their Vice-Chancellor has not yet done so. They warned of possible external influences obstructing the resignation and declared their readiness to address such issues.
Swarna Akhter Riya, a coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement, stated, “We are setting a deadline of 3 PM tomorrow for the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sadeka Halim, Registrar Professor Dr. Aynul Islam, Hall Provost Professor Dipika Rani, Proctor Prof Jahangir Hossain, and the entire Proctorial Body. If they do not resign by this time, we will escalate our actions.”
