Students of BRAC University have distributed vegetable seeds and fertilizers for the rehabilitation of farmers in Fulgazi upazila of Feni who were affected by the recent devastating floods.
The floods had severely affected the eastern region of Bangladesh in August and although the waters have receded, people are struggling to cope with the loss of their homes, crops, livestock and livelihood.
This has prompted 15 student clubs, with assistance from the Office of Co-Curricular Activities, of BRAC University to undertake “Uttaran: A Post Flood Rehabilitation Program” on the first week of September.
With the help of the upazila agriculture officer, the students provided each of 170 farmers 1,230 grams of seeds of eight types of vegetables and 10 kilograms of di-ammonium phosphate fertilizer.
Ussing the agricultural inputs, the farmers can cultivate 40 decimals of land (around 17,424 square feet).
