Oriental Art Department’s annual exhibition began at DU

A week-long ‘Annual Art Exhibition’ of Dhaka University’s Oriental Art Department began today at the Zainul Gallery of Fine Arts Faculty of the university.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the programme as the chief guest and distributed prizes and certificates among the eight students in recognition of their outstanding artworks.

A total of 84 selected artworks of 56 students have been put on display at the exhibition which will remain open for all from 11 am to 8pm everyday till November 30, said a press release here.

The winners are--Abhishek Dutta Tamal, Bappi Pal (Artist Shawkat Uzzaman Memorial Award), Anamika Pal (Artist Aminul Islam Memorial Award), Mst. Miskatul Jannat (Artist Rashid Chowdhury Memorial Award), Mst. Nazifa Yasmin (Artist Shafiqul Amin Memorial Award), Tasmia Nawsaba Barkatullah, Pragati Chakma and Nishat Tasnim Mithila.

Stressing the importance on continuing such events to recognize artworks of students, the VC said, “The exhibition will play a pivotal role in encouraging young artists and expanding the artworks across the country”.

Fine arts faculty dean Dr Azharul Islam Sheikh, Emeritus Professor Md. Abul Hashem Khan, Honorary Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar and Exhibition Committee Convener Prof Md Abdul Aziz also addressed the opening ceremony with Oriental Art Department Chairperson Dr. Sushanta Kumar Adhikary in the chair.
