Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, a former information commissioner and editor of Ajker Patrika, stated that in the digital era, individuality and creativity among people are diminishing. Human thought is being hampered by technology, which also limits our ability to make independent decisions.

He made these remarks during his speech at the Jagannath University central auditorium on Sunday (17 September), during the freshmen reception and farewell ceremony organised by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the university.

He also noted that the circulation of print newspapers is declining globally, including in Asia and the Pacific region. However, there is still optimism in our country because new publications are entering the market, and the acceptance of e-papers is growing day by day.

The University Treasurer, Prof. Dr. Kamaluddin Ahmed, mentioned that students from the Journalism Department are making significant contributions to the country's progress by working in various important positions. He expressed great pride in the department's alumni, many of whom have become well-established and accomplished personalities in Bangladesh.

Shahed Muhammad Ali, the editor of Kaler Kantho, encouraged students to build relationships and expand their networks of contacts. He emphasized that the world is full of opportunities to explore, and by connecting with more people, students can expand their horizons and gain valuable experiences.

Under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Shah Md. Nistar Jahan Kabir, deans of various faculties, teachers, and students were present at the event.
