US Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had a suspected parasitic worm in his brain, among various health issues, according to his deposition from his 2012 divorce proceedings.

Kennedy had been experiencing memory loss and mental fogginess in 2010, and doctors reviewing scans of his brain concluded that he might have a brain tumor. However shortly before surgery, Kennedy was given a different opinion from a doctor that he might have a dead parasite inside his brain. He underwent further tests, and doctors ultimately ruled that the apparent cyst seen in his brain scans contained the remains of a parasite.

Kennedy was also diagnosed with mercury poisoning around the same time, which can cause neurological issues. In his 2012 deposition, Kennedy admitted to having “cognitive problems” and both “short-term” and “longer-term memory loss.” He also revealed that he had contracted Hepatitis C during his youth from drug use.

He has previously spoke publicly about his spasmodic dysphonia, which causes his vocal cords to press together and strain his voice. Kennedy also suffered from atrial fibrillation for decades, although he told The New York Times in an interview that he had not had an incident in more than a decade.

He also said in the interview that he had recovered from his memory loss and mental fogginess, as well as the suspected parasite without treatment. His campaign declined to provide his medical records.

Kennedy, 70, has positioned himself as a young and healthy candidate in comparison to front-runners Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
