Govt is working to protect people permanently from river erosion

Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Huq Shamim today said the government is working to protect the people permanently from the river erosion.

"With the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government is working to protect people living throughout the country who are vulnerable to river erosion," he said.

The deputy minister said this while inaugurating a project titled 'right and left banks of Kritinasha river at Naria launch ghat here this morning.

"Not only the river erosion, but also to protect the people from any kind of disasters, the prime minister has given strict instructions to all the representatives including ministers and lawmakers to remain stay besides the people," said the deputy minister in his address.

Awami League president and district council chairman Sabedur Rahman Khoka Sikder, Naria Municipality Mayor Advocate Abul Kalam Azad, Naria Upazila Awami League general secretary Master Hasanuzzaman Khokon, Water Development Board Chief Engineer Abdul Hekim, Superintendent Engineer Syed Shahidul Alam, Naria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Rasheduzzaman and Shariatpur Water Development Board Executive Engineer SM Ahsan Habib, among others, attended.

Regarding the construction of the Padma bridge, Shamim said although the World Bank had denied in funding the multipurpose bridge but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been constructing the bridge with its own fund.

Water Resources Ministry and the Water Development Board have launched a Taka 319 crore project for constructing 11.94 kilometers long right and left Kritinasha river bank construction. The construction work will be completed by June 2024.
