Bangladesh seeks Kyrgyz support to sign FTA with EEC

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud on Monday (22 April) requested Kyrgyzstan to support Bangladesh for signing the Free Trade agreement (FTA) with Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and also to support Bangladesh's candidatures in different international fora.

He made the call during a call on meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Avazbek Atakhanov at his ministry here, a press release said.

Hasan mentioned that there are a lot of scopes for increasing the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries and requested the central Asian country to import garments, pharmaceuticals, jute products, tropical fruits, ceramics and IT products from Bangladesh. 

During the meeting foreign minister also sought Kyrgyzstan's assistance for the repatriation of the Rohingyas to their homeland Myanmar.

He reaffirmed Bangladesh's support to the legitimate aspiration of the Palestinian people for independent statehood.

Foreign minister thanked Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgojoyevich Japarov for his congratulatory message to the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her re-election on January 7 last.

Foreign Minister recalled the valuable support of Kyrgyz people as part of the former USSR extended to our Liberation war in 1971.

He also expressed happiness at the successful completion of the first Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two countries.
