Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said the depression over east central Bay and adjoining west central Bay moved to north-northeastwards and intensified into a deep depression over the same area at 9am on Saturday (25 May).

"The depression over east central Bay and adjoining west central Bay moved north-northeastwards, intensified into a deep depression over the same area and was centered at 9am today. It is likely to intensify and move northeastwards further," it said.

Earlier on Friday, the met office advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep hoisting distant cautionary signal no-1.

However, the met release valid for 72 hours from 9am today said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places in Khulna, Barisal and Chattogram divisions, at many places in Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at some places in southern part of the country. Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and it may continue.

Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius over the country. Due to increase of moisture incursion, the discomfort may persist.
