The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Food has recommended enhanced monitoring to ensure the marketing of adulteration-free food. This recommendation was made during the committee's third meeting on Sunday (26 May), chaired by Shahjahan Khan, at the Parliament Bhaban.

The committee reviewed the progress of previously made decisions and held detailed discussions on the processes for checking the quality of imported food grains and raising public awareness to prevent food waste.

It was reported in the meeting that no rice was imported in the fiscal year 2023-24 as the country’s production met the demand. However, the committee emphasized the importance of maintaining the quality of any food grains imported in the future.

The meeting also highlighted the need for plans by the Food Safety Authority to discourage food waste. It recommended launching public awareness programs to prevent food wastage at hotels, restaurants, weddings, picnics, and social events, with the engagement of media.

Present at the meeting were members of the committee, including Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Md. Makbul Hossain, Mostafa Alam, Abdul Kalam, Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury, SM Kamal Hossain, and Khan Muhammad Saifullah Al Mehedi. Also in attendance were the secretary to the Ministry of Food, the director general of the Department of Food, and other relevant authorities.
