The country’s first ever 14-lane road, combining 8 expressways and 6 service roads, is set to be inaugurated in the ensuing month of September.
As of now, 97 per cent of the much-talked-about road project in Kuril-Purbachal has already been completed.
Sources concerned have confirmed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the landmark project in September subject to completion of the relevant beautification work.
The sources said once opened, it will take only eight to ten minutes to cross the Kuril-Purbachal Link Road.
Experts said this road will create uninterrupted communication between Dhaka and neighbouring districts in addition to Chittagong and Sylhet.
The road project stretches 12.3 kilometres from Kuril to Purbachal with eight-lane expressway in the middle and six-lane service road around two sides. Although it is the first ever 14-lane road in the country, it is a road that has not been seen before in South Asia.
In terms of features, this road is full of modern construction style and aesthetics. To many, the unstoppable progress of indomitable Bangladesh begins right here.
A bird’s eye-view will draw attention to the five intersections. If one proceeds along the pitch-black road of the highway, s/he will see the intersection after a while.
Six bridges over the Balu River only add to the scenic beauty. And a 100-feet canal on both sides from Kuril will attract attention. A total of 13 bridges connecting north and south will increase the importance of this route manifold.
Even before the inauguration, the benefits of this uninterrupted road can be felt. Preparations for the inauguration await last-minute touches. Light post installations have got completed, the street lights will also get installed soon – what more left includes road marking and beautification.
The Project Director, M M Ehsan Jamil, said, “The overall progress of the project has been 97 per cent as of now. If everything goes well, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will complete the inauguration ceremony in September.”
Communication experts also said this new road of about twelve and a half kilometers will bring new speed to the capital city. Communication with the Purbachal New City and the Sheikh
Hasina Cricket Stadium will also be smooth. The uninterrupted connection that will be created in Chittagong, Sylhet, Narsingdi, Gazipur with Dhaka will only add to the country’s growing positive image.
Dr. Hadiuzzaman, Professor of Civil Engineering Department of BUET, said after the Dhaka Bypass, its full benefits will be available. Bypass users will then reap benefit from uninterrupted connectivity through the expressway.
This will not only help reach the destination quickly, but also reduce the pressure on the entry point of Dhaka with the traffic congestion in Dhaka also expected to be reduced, he noted.
Terming this project as yet another development milestone of this government, the communication expert said the housing project is being done in Purbachal, following which people’s traffic will increase. Hence, the government is going to get the milestone project done before the pressure of people increases.
