Price fall in large-cap drives stocks further down

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) plunged further on Tuesday due mainly to the fall in the prices of large-cap securities. DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 22.98 points or 0.40 per cent to 5738.40. 

Two other indices also ended sharply lower with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, plunged 5.61 points to finish at 2,001.72, and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 6.31 points to close at 1,245.34.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 3,676.6 million, which was Tk 4,688.21 million in the previous session of the week. Out of the 390 issues traded, 268 declined, 79 advanced, and 43 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

ABB1STMF was the day's top gainer, posting 6.98 per cent gain while PREMIERLEA was the worst loser, losing 6.12 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – losing 74.42 points to settle at 16437.24 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX – shedding 42.96 points to close at 9883.67.

Of the issues traded, 128 declined, 50 advanced, and 27 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 34.2 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover of about Tk 9.97 crore.
