BSEC gets 3 commissioners

The government has appointed three commissioners for the capital market regulatory body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). 

The three commissioners are current Commissioner Professor Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, former director general (secretary) of Bangladesh Karmachari Kallyan Board Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury, and Managing Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange Dr ATM Tariquzzaman. Current commissioner Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed has been reappointed.

According to the order of President of Bangladesh, Zahid Hossain, joint secretary of the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance, issued separate notifications in this regard on Wednesday. It was mentioned that the order issued in public interest would be effective immediately.

According to one of the notifications, as per Section 5(2) of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act 1993, BSEC Commissioner Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed has been re-appointed for a period of four years from May 20.

The two other notifications said former director general (secretary) of Bangladesh Karmachari Kallyan Board Mohammad Mohsin Chowdhury and Managing Director of DSE ATM Tariquzzaman have been appointed as BSEC commissioners for four years from June 2 and May 20, respectively. Their salaries and other benefits will be determined by the agreement signed with the government.

Earlier on April 28, Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam was re-appointed as the BSEC chairman for another four years. He was elected for a second term as the chairman. As a result, the new commission got two new commissioners and one old one.
