There has been an incident of using the government Sapna Yatra ambulance for election work on behalf of Awami League candidate of Lakshmipur-2 (part of Raipur and Sadar) seats. Raipur Upazila's Dakshin Charbanshi Union Parishad Chairman Abu Saleh Mintu Farayezi was fined Tk 50,000.

Assistant Returning Officer and Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Anjan Das confirmed the matter on Sunday night. Earlier, upazila Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Monira Khatun fined the accused UP Chairman Mintu Faraiji through a mobile court at around 9 pm.

According to related sources, Swapna Yatra ambulance has been provided by the district administration to ensure the service of the people at the grass root level. It will only be used for patient care. But on Sunday evening, Chairman Mintu Faraiji went to the house of Member of Parliament candidate Nooruddin Chowdhury Nayan in the district town with people in that ambulance.

Which is a violation of electoral conduct rules. Besides, he also violated the rules by campaigning for the Awami League candidate 3 weeks before the 12th parliamentary election. He was fined Tk 50,000 as per Rule 18 for violation of Rule 14 of 2 of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliament Elections.

UP Chairman Abu Saleh Mintu Faraiji said, I am a little sick. Still, I went to Lakshmipur with two members (UP members) in Sapna Yatra ambulance to meet the MP. Later, the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) informed me of a fine of Tk 50,000. I said I would meet on Monday (December 4) morning.

UNO Anjan Das said that Sapna Yatra Ambulance has been provided to serve the patients. But UP Chairman Mintu Faraji used it for electoral purposes. Campaigning on behalf of a candidate 3 weeks before the poll is a violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct. In these incidents, the UP Chairman was fined through the traveling court.

Incidentally, Kaushik Ahmed Sohel, general secretary of Raipur North Charababil Union Awami League, violated the code of conduct on Saturday (December 2) afternoon by holding a discussion meeting on behalf of the party candidate in Lakshmipur-2 constituency. On the same day evening, he was fined Tk 10,000 by the traveling court for violating the electoral conduct rules. Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan, the current Member of Parliament of Laxmipur-2 Constituency and General Secretary of District Awami League, is also a candidate for boat this time.
