Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged top-listed drug peddlers with 10 kilograms of heroin worth Tk 10 crore in Chapainawabganj district on Thursday (14 December) morning.
They are Shariful Islam alias Dhulu Mian, 50, and his son Mominul Islam of Jaira Moral village under Sadar Upazila in Chapainawabganj district.
Addressing a press briefing, Lt Col Riaz Shahrier, commanding officer of RAB-5, said that a large consignment of heroin reached Dhulu Mia through a person named Rustom Ali early Thursday.
When a team of the elite force conducted a drive at Dhulu Mia's house, he ran away sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
Later, based on the information provided by Dhulu Mia's son, RAB recovered the huge contraband item from a bamboo orchard adjacent to the residence of them.
Subsequently, they arrested Dhulu Mia from the locality.
The RAB official said that they have recovered 83 kilograms of heroin in 2023 so far and this is the largest recovery.
A case was filed with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station in this regard, he added.
