Two die in three-way collision in Jamalpur

Two people died and six others were injured in a three-way collision in Titpalya Bus Stand area on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway on Friday (15 December) morning.

The deceased were identified as Shamsul Haque, 40, of Jamalpur Sadar upazila and Anwar Hossain, 45, of Tangail’s Dhanbari upazila.

Mohabbat Kabir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Jamalpur collided head-on with a Jamalpur-bound pickup van from Dhanbari in Tangail. Due to the impact, the pickup van fell on the side of the road and hit an autorickshaw, killing two passengers in the autorickshaw on the spot.

On receiving the news of the incident, a unit of Jamalpur Fire Service rushed to the spot, rescued the injured, and sent them to Jamalpur General Hospital.

Meanwhile, the bodies were handed over to Sub-Inspector (Investigation) Fazle Elahi of Narayanpur Police Station.

Among the injured, three people were identified as Jamal Miah, 50, Suja Miah, 45, and Abul Kalam, 40.

OC Kabir said police were able to seize the bus but its driver fled the the spot.
