As the upcoming election in Rajshahi looms closer, candidates from various constituencies are voicing escalating concerns about significant security threats. In response to these apprehensions, candidates have urged their supporters to exercise caution, even expressing worries about their own safety.

In Rajshahi-4 constituency, two candidates have reportedly enlisted gunmen following their applications to the returning officer, citing security concerns.

Shamim Ahmed, the returning officer for Rajshahi district, confirmed that Enamul Haque, an engineer, and Abul Kalam Azad, vying for the Rajshahi-4 constituency, have included gunmen in their security applications to underscore the gravity of the situation.

Ahmed assured that while the overall security arrangements have been deemed satisfactory thus far, additional measures will be implemented to further fortify the electoral process.

Military personnel will be strategically stationed in the area, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies, including the police, RAB, Ansar, and intelligence units, is actively underway to ensure a fair and peaceful election.

Independent candidate Asaduzzaman Asad, contesting in Rajshahi-3, echoed concerns about the potential for significant violence before the elections. In response, he has issued directives to his campaign workers, urging caution and providing guidelines for election campaigning. Emphasising the need for vigilant monitoring of election camps to avert untoward incidents, Asad highlighted the importance of maintaining a secure environment.

The presence of independent candidates has raised concerns among Awami League activists, heightening vigilance in the region. With election festivities in full swing, a massive public gathering is anticipated on the day of the election, adding to the anxiety. Political activists are on high alert, acknowledging the potential security threats that may arise.

Candidates from other constituencies in Rajshahi have also expressed similar concerns, stressing the importance of sustained vigilance. These concerns have been communicated to the administration, which is actively addressing the situation.

Abdul Kalam Azad, a candidate for the Rajshahi-4 constituency, has accused the BNP-Jamaat alliance of attempting to disrupt the election campaign. Reiterating concerns about potential violence, Azad emphasised the need for stringent measures to prevent disturbances. He claimed that supporters of his campaign have been subjected to attacks by opposing factions, further hindering the electoral process.

In response to these security concerns, Anisur Rahman, the DIG of Rajshahi Range, assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order. Additional police forces have been deployed, and intelligence units are closely monitoring the overall situation.

Rahman affirmed their commitment to closely observing and addressing candidates' security concerns, underscoring the importance of a secure and peaceful election environment.
