In Bagmara, Rajshahi, the experimental cultivation of BINA Dhan-25 rice has resulted in a bumper yield, igniting hope and excitement among local farmers. This newly developed premium quality Boro variety rice has shown promising outcomes, offering a lucrative alternative to basmati rice and potentially reducing the need for rice imports.

Around 305 farmers across different unions of the upazila have enthusiastically engaged in cultivating BINA Dhan-25 on approximately 100 hectares of land this season. Notable farmers such as Abdul Mannan from Sreepur Union and Rustom Mondal from Basupara Union have ventured into cultivating this high-yielding non-hybrid rice variety.

Described as the tallest and narrowest variety, BINA Dhan-25 features thin and elongated grains reminiscent of imported basmati rice, making it a sought-after choice among buyers. The market demand for this rice is on the rise due to its quality and appearance, promising a profitable venture for farmers while potentially facilitating export opportunities.

Abdul Hamid, a farmer from Yogipara Union, anticipates a substantial yield of 20 to 25 maunds per bigha if weather conditions remain favorable, marking a significant success in the cultivation of Bina Dhan-25. The variety boasts a higher number of grains per ear compared to other strains, further motivating farmers like Abdul to embrace this innovative rice cultivation.

Under the diligent supervision of the Agriculture Department, the experimental cultivation of BINA Dhan-25 has flourished, with Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officer Abdul Karim highlighting the imminent harvest of the paddy in the coming days.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Abdur Razzak shared insights into the origins of Bina-25, initially named Sheikh Rashel-25 in honor of Sheikh Russell's birthday. With a projected completion of all harvesting activities within the next 10-15 days, the bountiful crop of BINA Dhan-25 rice signifies a significant milestone in agricultural success within the region.

Rajshahi District Training Officer Umme Salma expressed optimism for the future expansion of BINA Dhan-25 cultivation, emphasizing the Department of Agriculture's role in overseeing the cultivation process and ensuring the realization of expected yields.

Approved in 2022, BINA Dhan-25 rice's cultivation remains a highlight of the Boro season, boasting an average yield of 7.6 MT per hectare and a slender grain profile, setting a promising trajectory for agricultural growth in the area.
