Physically disabled Jabed finds joy in EVM voting

Javed Chowdhury, aged 68, who has been physically disabled since birth, defied physical obstacles to cast his ballot using an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) for the first time.

Machine (EVM) for the first time. Despite facing challenges, Chowdhury exercised his democratic right with the aid of his two hands and two legs at Kashinathpur Women’s Degree College Center during the Pabna Bara Upazila Parishad elections.

Chowdhury, a resident of Shibpur village in Jatsakini union, Aminpur police station of Bara upazila, has been a regular voter since the age of 20, previously casting votes on traditional ballot papers. 

However, this election marked his inaugural experience with the EVM system. Reflecting on his voting experience, Chowdhury expressed satisfaction, stating that although he was initially unfamiliar with the EVM procedure, his wife guided him through the process. He recounted pressing the white button followed by the green button, ensuring a seamless voting experience.

Despite facing financial challenges, including a allowance, delayed disability Chowdhury’s family, consisting of his wife, son Alamin, and daughter Beauty, manages to sustain themselves with assistance from their son’s income as a mason and support from the community.
