In anticipation of the upcoming Muslim festival Eid-ul-Azha, the Bangabandhu Setu West Link Highway has undergone significant changes to ease the journey for travelers heading to North Bengal. Traditionally, the highway experienced severe traffic congestion as people traveled by various means to reunite with their families. However, this year's Eid journey presents a different picture as improvements have transformed the Bangabandhu Bridge West Link Highway, surpassing previous expectations.

The western link highway of Bangabandhu Bridge serves as a crucial route for thousands of vehicles traveling between 22 districts in the North and South. However, the traffic volume multiplies during the Eid period, leading to extensive delays and frustration for passengers and drivers.

To address this issue, authorities have made substantial progress in upgrading the two-lane highway from Bangabandhu Setu West Roundabout to Chandaikon, expanding it to four lanes. Furthermore, several underpasses have been opened ahead of Eid, ensuring smoother movement for vehicles from the northern region's 22 districts. District police have also taken various measures to enhance the comfort and safety of Eid travelers.

Approximately 72 percent of the work to upgrade the 19-kilometer stretch from Bangabandhu Setu West Roundabout to Hatikumrul has been completed, while the 17-kilometer section from Hatikumrul to Chandaikona is 63 percent complete. Additionally, several critical underpasses and overpasses have been constructed along this route, which will be accessible before Eid.

Truck and bus drivers, as well as passengers using the highway, have expressed optimism that this year's Eid journey will be significantly more comfortable due to the recent improvements. Haji Atiqur Rahman, General Secretary of the District Bus Minibus and Coach Owners Association, stated that the Bangabandhu Bridge now boasts four lanes from the West Roundabout to Hatikumrul.

Sirajganj Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mandal highlighted the steps taken by the district police to manage the influx of vehicles during Eid travel and ensure passenger safety. Multiple police teams will be stationed at key points along the highway, working in collaboration with the highway police to provide round-the-clock support.
