Passengers are currently facing significant hardships due to the absence of a pontoon at the Kalikapur launch ghat in Narsingdi’s Raipura. The lack of a proper pontoon creates a worrisome situation during the launch process, raising concerns about potential accidents and safety risks. As a result, passengers are compelled to utilize a separate boat to embark on the launch, incurring additional costs and inconveniences. Particularly affected are children, women, students, and elderly individuals who encounter difficulties while transitioning between the boat and the launch, causing them to feel extremely insecure.

Passengers are rightfully expressing their frustration regarding the absence of essential public amenities. Despite the concerns voiced by passengers, both the BIWTA authorities and local residents remain uncertain about the installation of a pontoon at the ghat, leaving passengers in uncertainty.

It's worth noting that the Raipura Kalikapur area heavily relies on the Kalikapur launch ghat for communication. This region lacks direct road connections to districts and upazilas, necessitating daily travel via this waterway. Unfortunately, the absence of a pontoon at the ghat exacerbates the challenges faced by passengers.

Under the scorching sun of summer and the pouring rains of the monsoon, passengers are left waiting for hours along the banks. The current risky boarding situation has led to accidents and further complications. With the arrival of the monsoon season, the difficulties magnify significantly. The absence of pontoons not only heightens existing risks but also exposes passengers to even greater hazards when boarding the launch.

Students from the area have expressed their extreme discomfort due to the lack of a pontoon. The crowded launch process induces fear, as students, including those from higher classes, must navigate through windows and back doors to board and disembark from the launch. Many students travel to and from neighboring upazila cities for their education, making this water route their only viable option despite the difficulties and risks.

They demand its installation to address the ongoing crisis and suffering faced by the community. Local MP Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, upon being informed of the situation, has expressed his willingness to investigate the matter and take necessary action.

Rezaul Karim, Deputy Director of Ashuganj River Port, and Bhairav of Kishoreganj BIWTA, have both recognized the complexities involved in establishing a pontoon. While acknowledging the operational costs and investments required, they assure that appropriate action will be taken upon receiving requests from locals and recommendations from the local MP.
