People of Jangalia Kanda in Baghaber Union, Nalitabari Upazila of Sherpur, expressed their frustration through a unique protest, planting paddy saplings on a long-neglected road that has fallen into disrepair. This symbolic demonstration on Friday, highlighted their anger over the persistent lack of renovation efforts.

Stretching over 3 kilometers, the road remains unpaved, presenting a dust-covered surface during dry spells and transforming into a muddy quagmire during the monsoon season. The road serves as a crucial passage for approximately 2500 individuals, yet its deplorable state has persisted due to the absence of necessary refurbishments. Local residents voiced their disappointment, claiming that despite numerous assurances, the elected officials have failed to undertake the required work.

The stretch from Jangaliya Kanda's Gendu Sarkar House to Khalishakura Garo Bazar spans approximately 3 kilometers and remains devoid of proper surfacing. During the monsoons, the road's condition worsens, rendering it impassable due to accumulated mud and water.

Munshar Ali, a local resident of 55 years, highlighted the hardships faced by the villagers on a daily basis. He revealed, "Our difficulties are unending. Our young children navigate this challenging road to attend school, often returning home drenched in tears. These hardships not only impede their education but also contribute to physical ailments."

Sayem Hasan, a college student, described the logistical hurdles created by the road's condition: "Due to the road's deplorable state, we are devoid of rickshaws or vans for transportation. Consequently, I struggle to arrive at school or college on time for classes and exams."

Mizanur Rahman, the Chairman of Nayabil Union Parishad, clarified the challenges in addressing the road's condition. He explained that the Union Parishad lacks the necessary funds or LGSP project to undertake road renovations. An official application has been submitted for the road's surfacing, yet a viable solution has yet to materialize.
