Despite the absence of rain, a troublesome scenario persists on New Colony Road in Ward No. 1 of Raipur Municipality. This critical issue is causing immense inconvenience to the local residents who must navigate through the mud and waterlogged road .

The approximately one-kilometer-long road, adjacent to Raipur Upazila Parishad, presents a bleak picture. Nearly half of the road is submerged under murky water. The road is lined with residential houses on both sides, but the absence of adequate drainage infrastructure exacerbates the problem. Overflowing water from these drains, coupled with accumulated garbage, has contributed to the persistent waterlogging issue. This distressing situation has recently come to light.

Abdul Mannan, a long-time resident of Ward No. 1, expressed his frustration, saying, "Ward No. 1 lacks proper drainage facilities, making it extremely challenging for us to traverse the area. I have brought this issue to the attention of the mayor on multiple occasions, but regrettably, no concrete action has been taken. This problem has plagued us for the past 7-8 years, and despite assurances from the mayor, no drainage system has been implemented."

Residents of the locality also emphasized that every year, during the monsoon season, the area experiences the accumulation of rainwater, leading to waterlogging woes.

Councilor Abu Naser Babu, representing Ward No. 1 of Raipur Municipality, assured the Daily Messenger that he has notified the Mayor about the urgent need for drain construction to mitigate the persistent issue of road flooding. He pledged to investigate and address the matter promptly.

In response to the situation, Mayor Ghiyasuddin Rubel Bhat of Raipur Municipality informed the Daily Messenger that the waterlogging problem was a consequence of the non-compliance with municipal regulations during the construction of houses along New Colony Road. He explained that the construction of roads and drains would commence as soon as the necessary budget allocation is secured.

The local residents are eagerly awaiting a resolution to this long-standing issue, which has significantly affected their daily lives and mobility.
