A Sub-Inspector of Khulshi Police Station in the Port City and his source were captured and handed over to police by locals near Khulshi's Akhtaruzzaman Flyover area for stealing 17 Bhori of gold jewelry from an expatriate on Sunday (19 May) afternoon

Each bhori equals 11.664 grams in the metric system.

According to local sources, Abdul Malek, a Saudi expatriate from Lohagara in Chittagong, was carrying 17 Bhori of gold from Shah Amanat International Airport. SI Aminul Islam and his source detained him in the 'Tigerpass' area of the city. They picked him up in a police-identified auto-rickshaw.

After roaming around various streets in the city, they dropped Malek off near Akhtaruzzaman Flyover. At that time, they snatched 17 Bhori of gold from him. Meanwhile, the local people chased them. After that, they were captured by mobs and  handed over to the Panchlaish Police Station.

Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional Commissioner (North) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter and said that Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam was arrested along with his informer for stealing 17 Bhori of gold from an expatriate. Further details can be provided by the Officer-in-Charge of Khulshi Police Station.

Despite attempts to reach the Officer-in-Charge, Niyamat Ullah of Khulshi Police Station, for comment, he was unavailable for response.
