UGC inquiry committee in PSTU to look into recruitment irregularities, nepotism

An inquiry committee of UGC has arrived to look into recent recruitment irregularities and nepotism at the Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU).

On Thursday (29 February) from 10 am, the three-member committee started the investigation.

The convener of the three-member committee, Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Secretary Prof. Dr.  Ferdous Zaman, Member UGC Finance and Accounts Department Deputy Director Md.  Abdul Alim and Member-Secretary Deputy Director Amirul Islam Sheikh of UGC Public University Management Department. 

The Inquiry Committee investigates recruitment without financial sanction, recruitment in violation of the University Act, recruitment without post, recruitment without applying for the respective post and recruitment criteria etc.

At the end of the preliminary investigation at 2 p.m., the convener of the investigation committee Ferdous Zaman told PSTU Journalists' Association that the preliminary investigation of our investigation committee formed under the instruction of the Ministry of Education has been completed.

The university authorities have provided us with all the necessary documents. We have met both sides and heard their statements.  Asked whether the allegations have been proven true or not, then he said, it is difficult to say now.  We will soon submit our investigation report to the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education will take the next steps.

Incidentally, on 27 December 2023, PSTU Teachers' Association in the Ministry of Education complained of irregularities and nepotism in the appointment of PSTU, on 14 January 2024, the UGC formed the said inquiry committee on 28 January 2024 on the instructions of the Ministry of Education.
