School of Business and Economics of United International University (UIU) organized a series program titled “Bangladesh Corpus: Public Lecture Series-2024” as a part of ‘Bangladesh-India Relations: A Role Model for Neighbours’ recently at UIU Campus.

Touhid Hossain, Former Foreign Secretary, Government of Bangladesh was present as the Keynote Speaker in the program. The Dean of School of Business and Economics, UIU Prof. Dr. Mohammad Musa presided over the ceremony and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Md. Zulfiqur Rahman, Registrar, UIU.

Touhid Hossain said that the strong do what they have the power to do and the weak accept what they have to accept. he took us on a deep dive into the history of the two countries’ political, economical and societal relationship, starting from 1971 all the way to the present day. The above quote by Thucydides seems to hold an eternal truth – but as Mr. Hossain showed, to what extent both neighbors can profit from each other is nonetheless up to negotiations and diplomatic strategies.

He also said that a role model or ideal means something that others can follow. India's recent relationship with Bangladesh is being called a role model for the neighborhood. There is no doubt that the relationship between the governments of the two countries has been extraordinary in the last 15 years. But the relationship is not only limited to the government but also involves the people. As much as India's interests were secured during this period, Bangladesh's affairs were not. As a result, he thinks that the relationship between the two countries cannot be called a role model.

Heads of different departments, faculty members, officials, students and other distinguished guests were present in the program.
