Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University  (BSMRSTU) Teachers' Association of Gopalganj has demanded the withdrawal of the notification issued by the Ministry of Finance regarding pension.

Recently, the president of the teacher's association Md. Faekuzzaman Mia and the general secretary Dr. Bashir Uddin signed by This demand was made in a statement.

The statement said that the notification issued by the Ministry of Finance of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is against the interests of teachers, officers and employees working in public universities as autonomous institutions.

Because the notification states that the new recruits on or after July 2024 will be covered under the universal pension system. In the case of public universities the notification is discriminatory as well as contrary to the spirit of the Constitution in respect of rights. This notification is considered discriminatory, demoralizing, biased and grossly unacceptable by BSMRSTU Teachers Association.

In addition, the teachers' association said in the statement that the notification issued is completely against the teachings and philosophy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. As a result of such notification, there is a possibility of creating reluctance in the teaching profession among the teachers of the public universities of Bangladesh. The resulting disparity is likely to create a shortage of qualified and talented teachers in the higher education sector. There is no precedent in the history of the world that any civilized nation has prospered by leaving teachers in a state of indignity, contempt and mental oppression. The father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave great importance and respect to university level education, that is why the autonomy of the universities was established by his hands, his privileged daughter, the honorable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, is taking Bangladesh forward by holding the ideals of the father of the nation. He is also giving importance to university level education to face the challenge of building a smart Bangladesh.  Such a discriminatory universal pension plan for university teachers will be a hindrance to higher education as well as a hindrance to building a Smart Bangladesh. This kind of notification is meant to disrupt the continuous progress of development and make the country talentless, which is undoubtedly nothing but cheating the university teachers.

The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University Teachers Association, established in the name of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman strongly rejects the notification issued. And teachers' associations are demanding separate pay scales for teachers to make higher education more dynamic, modernized and research-friendly.
