In response to the scorching heatwave gripping the nation and the ensuing protests, the National University has suspended classes across its affiliated colleges.

The decision, announced on Saturday (April 20), comes amidst growing concerns over the safety and well-being of students and faculty members.

According to university sources, the closure will remain in effect until further notice, with classes halted in colleges affiliated to the National University.

The decision to suspend classes follows a series of precautionary measures undertaken by educational authorities across the country.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Education issued a notice in response to warnings from the Meteorological Department regarding the relentless heatwave.

All public and private educational institutions under the ministry's jurisdiction will now delay their reopening until April 28, as opposed to the initially scheduled date of April 21, after the scheduled vacation period.

Similarly, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has also taken steps to safeguard the well-being of young learners.

In a separate notification signed by Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, senior information officer of the ministry, said that all government primary schools, child welfare trust schools, and non-formal education bureau learning centers will remain closed from April 21 to 27.

This decision aims to mitigate the risk posed by the extreme heat to the health of children and students.

The prolonged closure of educational institutions comes on the heels of an extended holiday period, which encompassed Ramadan, Eid, and the beginning of Baisakh. Originally slated to resume classes on Sunday (April 21) following 26 consecutive days of holidays, students and guardians raised concerns over the adverse weather conditions.
