A tragic incident has occurred in the city’s Khilgaon area, where a 16-year-old school student named Jahidul Islam took his own life due to the overwhelming pressure he faced in his studies.
Jahidul, a ninth-grade student at Bonshree National Ideal School, succumbed to the weight of academic expectations, leading to this heartbreaking tragedy.
The incident came to light on Monday (29 Mat) morning when the local police discovered Jahidul's lifeless body at his residence on Bhuiya Bari Road in Khilgaon Thana.
On Monday morning, the local police recovered the body of the student from his residence on the Thana's Bhuiya Bari Road and sent it to Dhaka Medical College for post-mortem examination.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Inspector Elias Hossain of Khilgaon Thana provided details to The Daily Messenger.
He revealed, “We received the distressing news and immediately went to a five-story building where the tragic incident took place and we discovered the student's body in the dining room. After completing all necessary legal procedures, we transferred the body to Dhaka Medical College for post-mortem examination.”
He further stated, “Jahidul Islam studied in the ninth grade at Bonshree School in Banasree. From preliminary investigation, we have come to know that he was under pressure from his parents to study well academically, and he resorted to hanging himself in frustration.'
The police officer also mentioned that they currently reside on the fifth floor of Darogabari on Bhuiya Road. Their village home is located in the Sadar Thana area of Patuakhali district. He was the son of Abdul Rahim.
