Fifty-nine meritorious students from different departments under the Faculty of Science of Dhaka University (DU) have been given the Dean's Award' for their excellent academic results in BS (Hons.) examinations.
Besides, ten faculty members have received Dean's Award for writing books and outstanding research works. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman distributed the awards among the students and teachers at a function held today (September 07) at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.
Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad presided over the function while DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal addressed it as special guests. Chairpersons of various departments declared the names of awardees. The Chairperson of the Department of Physics Prof. Dr. Supriya Saha gave the vote of thanks.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to play an effective role in ensuring social justice as well as establishing rule of law in society. He stressed the need for maintaining discipline in every sphere of life to make an elegant society.
The students have to prepare themselves as perfect human being with a combination of non-communal, ethical and humanitarian values. He also urged teachers and students to conduct fundamental scientific research for the betterment of human beings.
