After directing more than 100 dramas, Director Abu Hayat has at long last decided to make a cinema. His first movie is titled “Once upon a time in Dhaka” whose tagline is “Ami Kala”. He has earned quite a lot of applause in making dramas, but now it’s time for cinema and netizens are keeping an eye on it. How will the movie fare? The wider audience will get to know about this in course of time.

The welcome announcement was pronounced on Tuesday evening at a restaurant in Dhaka’s Eskaton. From there, the director said “this very cinema is about a real story of the thrilling Dhaka underworld of 90s.

The cinema 'Once Upon a Time' will be directed based on Mejbah Uddin Sumon’s script.

Director Abu Hayat, in a special discussion with The Daily Messenger, sums up everything about the upcoming movie:

In most cases, directors are used to choosing romantic stories. How, in your case, you have chosen the Underworld’s story?
I chose a story full of action and thrill which has drawn inspiration from some real-life stories from the past. And I do believe that people will take it with much more interest and enthusiasm.

Do you think that the story of Underworld is challenging?
Yes, it has been a challenging experience to work on the big screen as of now. But you know, I have the experience of working on the small screen, which means making drama. So, I think I will not face too many difficulties.

What are the differences in making dramas and cinemas by your perception?
There are a lot of differences between making dramas and cinemas. But I want to work properly in every aspect like making movie, advertisement, editing, color, and song to make my first big project a successful one.

Who are acting in this cinema?
The actor is from Bangladesh and the actress is an Indian, but we will soon reveal all details – along with the key actor through an event. Besides, to release outside the country, the matter of casting ultimately creates big value, which we keep in mind as well. And this is what I am planning. Moreover, in the script of Mejbah Uddin Sumon, the main two characters are from Dhaka and West Bengal, while the other characters will be done by Tariq Anam Khan, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Salahuddin Lavlu, and singer Pritom Ahmed among others.

When will the shooting start? And when will it be released?
The shooting of this thriller and suspense-based cinema will start in May this year and it will be released considering a good day.

Although the story is based on the underworld, still there will be no portrayal of any specific figure, said the director. Creative Land is producing this cinema project, with some more production houses set to join too.
