Legendary actress Anwara Begum will be honoured at the upcoming prestigious 'Ma Padak 2024' ceremony, scheduled to take place on May 12 at an upscale hotel in Dhaka. The event is organized annually by Madiha Marsiha Advertising under the initiative of the Ali-Rupa Foundation and the overall supervision of journalist Ovi Moinuddin.
The 'Ma Padak' award ceremony, which has been taking place since 2022, aims to recognise and celebrate mothers of accomplished individuals from various sectors, including cinema, theatre, music, dance, administration, education, journalism, and the armed forces. This year's event is sponsored by Perfect Electronics, under the overall cooperation of Golam Shahriar Kabir, the company's chief executive officer and founder.
Expressing her immense joy, Anwara Begum said, “I have previously received nine national awards for my acting, but being honoured with the 'Ma Padak' for portraying motherly roles in countless films is truly a unique feeling for me. The audience's love is my greatest achievement. I extend my gratitude to the Ali-Rupa Foundation and Perfect Electronics for bestowing this special honour upon me."
According to Mohammad Abdul Haq Nagari, the general secretary of the Ali-Rupa Foundation, the tradition of honouring an accomplished actress from film or theatre with the 'Ma Padak' award will continue this year, with Anwara Begum being the esteemed recipient.
In addition to Anwara Begum, more than a dozen proud mothers of accomplished children will also be recognised with the 'Ma Padak' award during the ceremony, which marks the occasion of World Mother's Day.
