For over a decade, Dr Ashis Kumar Chakraborty has been spearheading the Gorbini Ma Award (Proud Mother Award) ceremony, organised by the Universal Medical College Hospital, to honour the remarkable mothers behind the success stories of individuals across diverse sectors.

This year, the respected Afroza Nasreen, mother of the talented and popular Bangladeshi actor Shatabdi Wadud, will be honoured with the Gorbini Ma Award 2024.

Confirming the matter, Dr Ashis Kumar Chakraborty, the chief organiser of this event, said, “Shatabdi Wadud is undoubtedly a talented and accomplished actor of great stature.

Previously, we have honoured the mothers of actors like Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Apurba, and Nisho with the Gorbini Ma Award. Continuing this tradition, we are recognising the mother of another actor this year. After due consideration, we have decided to bestow this honour upon the respected Afroza Nasreen Aunty, the mother of Shatabdi Wadud. It is a matter of great pride for us as well.”

Shatabdi Wadud shared his feelings, “The day I received the National Film Award for my acting, my mother was overjoyed. Seeing her happiness and delight, I couldn't help but shed tears. That day, I truly understood how a child's success and subsequent recognition can make a mother so proud. However, now that Ashis da is honouring my mother with the Gorbini Ma Award in recognition of my achievements, the joy I feel inside is truly indescribable. If my father were alive today, he would have been so happy. I express my sincere gratitude to Ashis Da and the authorities of Universal Medical College."

The chief guest at the event, the honourable minister for Liberation War Affairs, AKM Mozammel Haque, MP, will present the award to Shatabdi Wadud's mother on World Mother's Day, May 12, at 12 pm at the RAOWA Convention Centre (Hall-2) in Mohakhali. The event will be chaired by Preeti Chakraborty, CIP, chairperson of Universal Medical College Hospital and director of FBCCI.

During the programme, 10 proud mothers of successful children will be honoured.
