Bangla Academy hands over Nazrul Puraskar

Bangla Academy handed over the Nazrul Puraskar 2024 at a programme held at its Kabi Shamsur Rahman Seminar Room on Thursday. The academy awarded Professor Razia Sultana with the Nazrul Puraskar 2024 for her contribution to research on Nazrul’s work.

On behalf of Razia Sultana, her relative Momena Khatun was present at the programme and received the certificate, crest and the check of Tk 2,00,000, said a press release.

Professor Razia Sultana joined the programme virtually and said that she felt deeply honoured for receiving the award. She said that the award would encourage her in conducting further research on Nazrul.

Bangla Academy organised the programme comprising discussion, award ceremony and cultural show marking the 125th anniversary of the birth of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Tagore University of Creative Arts vice-chancellor Syed Mohammad Shahed delivered a speech on Nazrul at the programme. He said that Kazi Nazrul Islam wanted an end to injustice and inequality.

Nazrul protested against social and political anomalies, said Syed Mohammad Shahed.

The academy’s acting director general Md Mobarak Hossain delivered welcome speech at the programme, which was presided over by its president Selina Hossain.
Besides, recitation artiste Dahlia Ahmed recited poems of Nazrul while singers, namely Rawshan Ara Soma, Leena Tapasi Khan and Pradip Kumar Nandi entertained the audience rendering songs of Nazrul.

Bangla Academy will pay tribute to Kazi Nazrul Islam placing floral wreaths at the poet’s grave beside Dhaka University Central Mosque on May 25.
