Shooting was scary instead of fun: Shipan

Shipan Mitra

Shipan Mitra made his film debut by acting in the film ‘Desha: The Leader," directed by Saikat Nasir.

The good-looking actor was able to grab everyone's attention in his first film. Recently, Shipan acted in a telefilm based on famous fiction writer Manik Bandopadhyay’s classic novel 'Padma Nadir Majhi," directed by Tarique Muhammad Hasan. In an exclusive interview with Nisha Mahmuda of The Daily Messenger, he shared insights about his work experience and recent projects. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

The Daily Messenger (TDM): Any interesting experiences on the shooting set of 'Kuber Majhi'?

Shipan: The experience is more terrifying than fun. I had to go to an ordinary salon and ask them to cut my hair. I've never had a haircut like this. ‘Kuber Majhi’ is a movie shown to be modern and up-to-date with what a ’Padma Nadir Majhi' is supposed to look like in 2023.

Another incident was that we were shooting in a river at a place called Shivpur. In one scene, I was supposed to save Kapila from the river as she did not know how to swim, and we had to finish the scene in one take as we did not have an extra costume.

However, our Kapila did not know how to swim in real life. When the shooting started, Kapila jumped into the river. A real sailor jumped into the river to save her as she was drowning. After drying the clothes, we shot the part the next day.

TDM: Why can't we see you in a lot of movies?

Shipan: Ever since the release of my first movie, 'Desha: The Leader', I have received many offers from producers. But I have been very selective about the script from the beginning. However, some wrong selections have been made. Since then, I have become more aware and selective.

TDM: As far as we know, you had a production company; does it still exist?

Shipan: I am not giving myself full-time to media now. I am doing business as well. So even though I am not active in my production house, I am working on several events and doing some government promotional work.

TDM: Acting or modeling—which is more comfortable for you?

Shipan: I like both of them. But I love to work in films, with which I am more comfortable.

TDM: What are you busy with at the moment?

Shipan: Now I am busy working on three serials and the telemovie 'Kuber Majhi'. I don't want to say anything about other projects at the moment.
