US authorities are concerned that the intelligence the country shares with Israel is being used to target civilians and infrastructure amid hostilities in the Gaza Strip, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday (31 March).
Following the October 7 attack, the United States and Israel signed a secret intelligence-sharing memorandum, the report read.
At the beginning of the hostilities, US intelligence agencies developed rules for exchanging data with Israel, but in the end, senior White House policymakers determine whether there have been any violations of such rules, the report added. The US special services compile data on possible violations of the rules of the conflict by both sides in a report published every two weeks.
In the memorandum, Israel committed to using the data in a way that would not target civilians or civilian infrastructure, the newspaper reported, citing US officials. At the same time, it is difficult to understand exactly how the information is being used, the officials said.
