Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly will visit Belgium this week to attend a NATO Foreign Ministers meeting, Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said on Tuesday (2 April).
The NATO foreign ministers meeting will address matters related to Ukraine, and the alliance’s cooperation with its partners in the Indo-Pacific such as Japan, South-Korea, Australia and New-Zealand.
“The Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will be traveling to Brussels, Belgium, to attend the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting from April 3 to 4,” GAC said in a statement.
Joly is set to meet with her NATO counterparts to discuss the current global security environment and welcome Sweden’s foreign minister of his first foreign ministers meeting in NATO following its accession on March 7, GAC added.
Among other topics of discussion, marking the 75th anniversary of the creation of the military alliance and a NATO-Ukraine Council meeting on the continued assistance being provided to Ukraine amid Russia’s ongoing special military operation, GAC said.
Joly will reiterate both its support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and Ottawa’s position that Kiev should be able to join NATO as soon as “conditions allow,” GAC continued.
