South Korean Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho and his UK counterpart, Michelle Donelan, held a video meeting on Wednesday (24 April), during which they discussed preparations for a joint artificial intelligence (AI) summit to come.
The AI summit is expected to take place in Seoul from May 21–22. It is a follow-up to the AI Safety Summit hosted by the United Kingdom in November 2023. Among the participants were South Korea, the United States, Japan and Germany.
"We expect the AI Seoul Summit, scheduled to take place next month, to set a significant milestone in devising global AI principles and governance," Lee was quoted as saying by the news agency.
The two-day summit will reportedly focus on AI safety and specific areas of cooperation. South Korea will concurrently hold the AI Global Forum, which is expected to bring together high-level officials from countries around the world, key industry leaders and scientists.
