Two separate courts on Sunday (31 March) denied bail to BNP Joint Secretary General and Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP President Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and ordered to send him to jail.

Sohel surrendered and applied for bail in the courts of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates M. Mainul Islam and M. Aktaruzzaman.

Both the courts, however, rejected his bail prayers in three cases and ordered to keep him behind bars.

According to the documents, two separate cases were filed in October 2017 and February 2018 with Paltan police station against him on the charges of obstructing the law enforcers from performing their duties.

In 2023, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate sentenced him to four years of imprisonment in these two cases.

In January 2015, another case was filed at New Market police station over the same allegation.  He was sentenced to 1.5 years in jail in that case last year.
