The Mymensingh District Second Division Football League, known as the "Mayor's Cup," has been inaugurated with the support of the Mymensingh City Corporation. The programme was initiated by the District Football Association.
On Tuesday (30 May), at 3 PM, Mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation Mohammad Ikramul Haque Titu was present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium.
The mayor stated that the honorable Prime Minister is sincerely working towards the development of sports. He mentioned that the Prime Minister has also taken initiatives for the construction of stadiums at the upazila level. Through organizing various tournaments from the grassroots level, they have been able to expand the pathway for nurturing athletes.
Mymensingh is a breeding ground for sports. Male and female athletes from Mymensingh are competing with distinction at the national and international levels. Mymensingh City Corporation has been instrumental in the development of sports in Mymensingh, and it will continue to play a significant role in the future as well, he added.
12 teams from Mymensingh Division are participating in this football league.
The inauguration of the league was carried out by the President of Mymensingh District Awami League Ehteshamul Alam and the General Sectary of Mymensingh Sports Association. Councilor of Ward No. 03 Md. Shariful Islam Sharif delivered the welcome speech as the convener of the league. The President of the District Football Association, Professor A. K. M. Delwar Hossen Mukul, chaired the event. Mohammad Yousuf Ali, the Chief Executive Officer of Mymensingh City Corporation, was also present at the ceremony.
Prominent businessperson and sports organizer Khandaker Mahbub Alam, along with councilors from the City Corporation and officials from various levels, as well as the presence of leading journalists, graced the occasion.
