The once vibrant surroundings of Haknagar Bazar in Sunamganj's Doarabazar Upazila have now transformed into a distressing sight, marred by piles of garbage.

Market waste is scattered across open spaces, creating an unsightly scene that not only impacts the atmosphere but also poses a threat to public health.

Piles of waste constantly decompose, producing foul odors in the air, resulting in an increase in mosquito and fly infestation. The unpleasant environment is affecting everyone, from buyers and sellers to ordinary pedestrians and visitors frequenting the market.

Local residents say the necessity of coming to the market for daily necessities but are hindered by the overpowering stench of garbage. The pervasive odor makes it challenging to breathe normally, affecting the overall market experience.

Market traders at Haknagar express their concerns, pointing out the lack of proper dustbin management in the market. The absence of designated disposal areas has led to the indiscriminate dumping of garbage throughout the market alley, creating an environment ripe for the spread of odors and germs.

Additionally, the inadequacy of public toilets in the market has contributed to an increasing stench of urine, further diminishing the overall market ambiance. Traders fear that if these issues persist, not only will the market environment continue to degrade, but it may also drive away potential buyers and sellers, leading to economic losses.

Abdul Motalib Bhuiyan, a resident of Chowdhury Para, emphasized the urgency of establishing public toilets and dustbin facilities to restore the normalcy of Haknagar market. He called upon the Haknagar Bazar Traders Association, local public representatives, and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to address the pressing issue.

In response to these concerns, local UP member Abdul Qadir highlighted the responsibility of the business association in maintaining the cleanliness of the market. He urged them to take immediate action to rectify the situation.

President of Haknagar Bazar Traders Association, Fazal Haque, assured the public that steps would be taken promptly to address the garbage crisis at Haknagar Bazar and restore cleanliness to the market. The commitment comes as a ray of hope for locals who aspire to see their market rejuvenated and free from the looming threat of economic downturn.
