Jewellery trader robbed of gold and cash in Bagerhat

In a brazen act of robbery, muggers targeted a jewelry trader in Morelganj upazila, Bagerhat district, making off with 100 tola of gold ornaments and Tk 2.5 lakh in cash. The incident occurred on Friday (23 February) evening as the victim was heading home from his shop.

Niloy Karmakar, the proprietor of ‘Niloy Jewellers’, was ambushed by three assailants while riding his motorbike home after shutting down his business around 8 pm. The muggers not only snatched the significant amount of gold and cash but also his motorbike, after subjecting him to a severe beating.

Shahjahan Ahmed, the officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station, reported that upon receiving information about the robbery, police promptly established checkpoints across the district in a concerted effort to apprehend the culprits.
