A total of 1, 22,896 poor and distressed families of the district will get 1228.96 tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to celebrate the upcoming the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Member of Parliament (MP) of Natore-2 constituency (Natore Sadar and Naldanga) Shafiqul Islam Shimul inaugurated the VGF rice distribution as the chief guest on the premise of the Natore Sadar Pourashava on Thursday (4 April).
District relief and rehabilitation officer Shamima Akhter Jahan said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution to the poor and distressed families in all seven upazilas and eight Pourashavas in the district.
"The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are preparing to distribute the rice to listed VGF card holder families," said District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Shamima Akhter Jahan.
Each of the selected beneficiary families will get 10 kg VGF rice in 52 unions under seven upazilas and eight Pourashavas in the district.
District relief and rehabilitation officer Shamima Akhter Jahan said that steps are being taken to complete distribution to the card holder families before the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr to assist them in celebrating the festival.
