Indian citizen arrested in Phulbari border area

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested one Indian citizen from Balarhat border area under Phulbari upazila of Kurigram district. The police sent him to Kurigram jail through the court yesterday (April 28).

The arrested citizen was identified as Badol Mia (27), son of Jahidul Mia of the border village Natkobari Nayarhat under Dinhata thana in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal province in India.

According to police source, the Indian citizen Badal Mia entered illegally about two kilometres inside of Bangladesh territory from the India-Bangladesh border at Saturday night (April 27) and was roaming suspiciously in Balarhat Bazar area of Naodanga union under the Phulbari upazila.

Hearing the information, BGB men of the Balarhat BOP camp arrested him (Badol) from the Balarhat Bazar and took away him to their camp. Later the Balarhat BGB men filed a case (under Passport Act) with Phulbari police station against the Indian citizen at the night due to illegal entrance to Bangladesh territory and handed him over to the police.

Pran Krishna Debnath, Officer-in-charge of Phulbari police station confirmed the incident and said, “The Balarhat BGB has filed a case here against the Indian citizen under the Passport Act for the crime of illegal entrance to Bangladesh territory. The Indian citizen has been sent to Kurigram jail through the court today (April 28).”
