Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a woman from her own house in Tangail’s Bhuapur early Friday (15 September).

The deceased was identified as Sultana Suraiya (65), mother of Abu Shyem Akhund, news editor of English daily The Business Standard and wife of Late Freedom Fighter Rahim Akhund.

According to locals, Suraiya lived alone in the house.

On Thursday evening, neighbours and family members found her phone switched off. Later, they went to the house and found her lying on the floor. Later, police came and recovered the body.

“My mother lived alone in the house. There was no enmity with anyone. Drug addicts can come to steal and do this. I demand a thorough investigation into the incident and immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for those involved,” said Shyem.

Ahsan Ullah, officer-in-charge of Bhuapur Police Station, said the body of the deceased was recovered from the spot and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy on Friday morning. Preliminary investigation suggested that it was a murder.
