New York Judge Juan Merchan found Donald Trump in contempt of the gag order for the tenth time and fined him another $1,000, warning that the former US president can be incarcerated if he doesn’t stop breaking the order, according to a court filing published on Monday (6 May).

"THEREFORE, Defendant is hereby put on notice that if appropriate and warranted, future violations of its lawful orders will be punishable by incarceration; and it is hereby ORDERED, that Defendant pay a $1,000 fine for his violation of this Court's lawful order by the close of business on Friday, May 10, 2024," the filing reads.

Merchan also ordered that Trump remove his Truth Social post by 2:15 p.m. Monday.

The court has fined Trump $10,000 for his posts on Truth Social, which Merchan found violating his gag order amid the ongoing "hush money" trial.

While announcing his decision, Merchan emphasized that he would not want to put Trump in jail for contempt of the court because he is the former US president and possibly the next one.
